Kontokali Bay is an ideal place for couples (or singles) looking for a relaxing break. The setting and grounds are lovely (two private beaches, lovely infinity pool) and it's away from the busy tourist spots. Our room and our balcony were certainly big enough for our needs. Facilities in the room were limited (weak shower, lack of TV channels in English) but there was a useful safe (free to use) and a complimentary bottle of wine on arrival. The Kontokali Bay hotel provides beach towels free of charge, and there's also one computer with internet access available to use FOC.

The staff at the hotel were always courteous and helpful, although a little lacking in warmth and friendliness - arrival consisted purely of a form to fill in then being told to follow the porter. The breakfasts were good and plentiful. We had B&B board and ate in the hotel restaurant one night which was ok, but more expensive and not as tasty as eating in the small tavernas in Kontokali. About 5/10 minutes from the hotel (walking) is a small taverna with slow service but well-cooked food and a couple of small shops. Another 5 minutes walk (follow the sign for Gouvia Marina) and there's a single street (Kontokali itself) with a good handful of tavernas. 'Telesilla' is the liveliest, but perhaps the best food was from 'Zorbas' (the last one on the left) where the service was quiet/humble and the food was delicious. Gouvia Marina is nice for a quick pre-dinner stroll as the sun sets, and although we never bothered travel traveling further than Kontokali for dinner, Gouvia itself was highly recommended to us for it's bars and restaurants.

We used the spa (which is new this year) and whilst my boyfriend was delighted with the massage he had, my 'spa manicure' was very disappointing (the varnish chipped within a couple of hours, and my nails suffered kept tearing for days after). All in all, Kontokali Bay hotel is not for people wanting a particularly lively holiday, or for people seeking lots of entertainment for children, but we would certainly return for a relaxing break
