Pantokrator Hotel  //   "Views to die for - Corfu"

We've just come back from staying in Barbati for one week and absolutely loved it. Our first impressions of the hotel were very good, the reception area and pool/bar area being of a high standard. It is built on the side of a mountain, so some steep walking involved, however the hotel took us and our cases up to our room in their mini bus on arrival, this bus also runs a courtesy service down to the main road during the day on the hour, it is a very slow steep climb up from the beach!

We were slightly disappointed with our standard room, as it was very basic and the bathroom very small, however the view from our balcony more than made up for this and we figured that we were only sleeping in the room so were not that bothered about upgrading for the €30 each per night luxury room. One thing to note, on their website they do state that standard rooms come with hairdryer and fridge and satelite tv, this is not so. There was no hairdryer (luckily i took my own), tv but it only showed local channels (we were told that satelite only came with luxury rooms) and there was a fridge but you had to pay €3.50 per day for this. However air conditioning was included which was a plus as it was very hot when we first arrived

Food was buffett style, both breakfast and dinner and while it was fairly good food, we weren't overwhelmed and the odd choices of food for breakfast was most bizarre but then I suppose they catered for all tastes! We were lucky enough to enjoy this break without our children but had they been there we think we would have struggled to keep them happy food/entertainment wise. Pool was lovely and very clean. Bar by pool offered good choice of snacks/meals and sunbeds were free. As already stated walk to/fro beach is very steep, took us about 10/15mins to walk to the main Barbati beach.

This beach is pebbly, not sandy. If you do venture down we found the most lovely beach bar/restaurant called Piedra del Mar. The food was lovely, staff very friendly and just a very modern chilled atmosphere. They had there own sunbeds that you could hire, which we did for the day, for the two and a parasol was €9 set, they come a bring you a bucket of ice and bottle of water with that free, which was a nice touch, they'll serve you all day from your sunbeds if you wish or leave you totally alone, we loved it. Trip to Corfu town in evening on our organised coach at €15 each was well worth it but we took the twilight boat cruise as well which we wish hadn't, was a waste of time and money. We would recommend if you can hiring a boat for the day, about €55-60 for the day then you're free to visit all different coves, something that is hell to do on roads as they drive like mad things there!! Taxi transfers cost €40 approx each way

All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable, peaceful week away. Hotel good, beach clean, sea warm and clear, Barbati resort is not recommended for a lively holiday but is brilliant for a chilled relaxing break as long as you don't mind hills!
