Hiya. My girlfriend and I have just returned from a week spent at the Pantakrator hotel in Barbati. The hotel is in a beautiful location, with some excellent views, although as other reviewers have suggested, the hillside location also has its bad points, namely that if you get a room at the top of the hill, as we did, then it is an arduous walk during the day to the room. Lets start with the food. We stayed on a half board basis, booked on a late deal for a good price. The breakfast was average buffet based fair.

The cooked breakfast wasnt up to much and I have never been a fan of continental meats etc. Plentiful bread, jams, coffee etc so you can make do. The lack of variety did get to me by the end of the week, but that is perhaps being over demanding. I liked the evening buffet which consists of soup, salad bar, the choice of three or four hot dishes and a sweet. The menus were varied, and whilst all the food wasnt of the highest standard, I ate happily for a week without any major problem. The bars were very fairly priced, with a nice variety of cocktails.

The staff are very friendly and helpful. We stayed in your standard room which was fine but basic. A little bugbear of mine was that there was an air conditioning unit in the room but you had to pay extra to use it. I don't like this as it feels as if you are being continually asked for more and more money for a service that should be included. The same goes for the jacuzzi which stands next to the pool unused by anyone as it is exhorbitantly priced. Indeed, there wasnt even water in it. If the jacuzzi was cheaper then it would be used. The bathroom was small and the shower was not very good. The room was cleaned every day though and we had our own balcony which had a very good view of the bay.

Barbati is pleasant with a view nice tavernas and beaches but there isnt much to do. We wanted a sun lounger holiday but if you are wanting to do anything else then a taxi or hire car is recommended. We got a taxi to corfu town which is highly recommended and broke up the holiday nicely. Overall I would say that the Pantokraotr hotel was a good three star destination. I am not convinced that it is any better than this and certainly is not a four star destination in terms of the actual hotel room and food. I give the holiday an above average rating because if you are after a quiet, peaceful holiday for a reasonable price then this fits the bill, but be prepared to have to travel around the island if you want anything more than this as Barbati, apart from a few nice tavernas and a beach has very little to offer.
