Pantokrator Hotel  //
"Perfect romantic quiet getaway with beautiful Corfu surroundings"

We came back from the Pantokrator Hotel a few weeks ago. I felt I should write a review and no as the previous reviewer accused other reviewers of, I am not related nor friends with the owners. I found the reception guy very friendly and helpful, he must have been the same one as he seems to work 24 hours a day and seven days a week, I actually asked him if he ever slept. I found the staff there could not do enough and insist on helping you that is why they have a person who drives you to your room with your bags, probably because previous reviewers have complained that it is too steep, and yes it is steep but it is called the pantokrator because it is at the foot of the pantokrator mountain, i did my research before I went.

The driver actually asks you if you want a lift every time he sees you, he also was very funny and a helpful guy.
The room was basic but very clean, no creepy crawlies seen once, they are very quaint white rooms that have their own doors so quite private in that way, a little like your own cottage, roughly painted white walls, no corridors!!!! Yes as the previous reviewer wrote on very rare occasions in fact only once there was a smell from the drains, but that is not the hotel it is the whole of Greece and in fact most other european countries, why do people go away and expect everything to be like the UK. The communal areas are all very modern and has a little bit of a cafe del mar feel, they have little outdoor chill out platforms overlooking the sea to sip your cocktails from. The food was very good and very varied for the price, in two weeks we never got the same evening meal once

Pantokrator is a very multi national hotel, no noise at night, the only complaint I have was the matress was very hard and I myself prefer a soft one. Barbati is a lovelly quite romantic village, with a few bars, tavernas and two shops. The beach is fantastic and there is a brilliant taverna there, it is the one on the right when you get to the bottom, we spent most of our days on the beach and in that taverna, the staff there where great, they also have the sun beds at the front, somtimes they didn't charge us for the beds but when they did I think it was only 5 euros for the day. There is also a place to hire speed boats for the day, you can hire one for 50 for a smaller one and the up to 100 for the best ones, it was a really nice day and good way to explore the island, but beware when you get back you have to pay for fuel, we where aware of this but did not think it was going to be as expensive as it was, it was 50 euros for the fuel

There is a bus stop at the bottom of the hill one way to Corfu Town which we went on a couple of days, it is a lovelly city centre with plenty of taverna's and shops and also history. The other way takes you to Kassiopi, this is also highly recommended as it is a beautiful little village, with more going on than in Barbati, the bars are slightly cheaper and it is just a must. The only problem is the last bus is about 5ish and a taxi will cost about 40 euros and I'm also not sure i would want to take a taxi on the crazy windy scary road. If you go to Kassiopi, near the bus stop is the bar of Mike the Fisherman, very friendly guy who will sell you his book that he has written about his life for 5 euros and is definately an interesting character. Very welcoming couple who own the bar.
All in all definately would go back, we had a fantastic holiday, but would say if you like liveliness don't go to barbati, if you don't like hills don't go to barbati, if you like an all english hotel don't go to the pantokrator, but if you want a welcoming, good value, quiet relaxing, sunbathing, romatic, picturesque, clean getaway then it's a defo.
