Pantokrator Hotel  //   "Must be the best view on Corfu Island"

Stayed at the Hotel Pantokrator for two weeks at the end of July/beginning of August 2005. This is our third time at this hotel, and we had a fabulous holiday. Everyone refers to the Hotel as the Pandokrator, but the locals seems to spell it Pantokrator. The hotel web site is (---) and give the viewer a pretty acurate description of the hotel

We upgraded to a de luxe room for this holiday, and it was worth every penny. The air conditioning was excellent and a good night's sleep was had every night, despite the extremely hot weather! The room was cleaned daily and the maids were very friendly. Our room had a brilliant view over the bay over to Corfu in the distance. The majority of rooms are almost like self contained chalets and have an almost private balcony.

We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis, and cannot complain about the food. Breakfast was a buffet type affair and was plentiful and varied. Not quite up to some of the better hotels perhaps - but I expect you get what you pay for - and let's face it, for the money it was excellent. We also had an evening meal on a few occasions during the two weeks at the hotel. Again this was a buffet affair - not brilliant - I loved the salad bar, and my husband certainly enjoyed the fact you could eat as much as you liked, but I would have preferred the main courses to be less fried, with perhaps more choice. Still they usually managed a pasta so again it was quite acceptable. We usually walked down to the village of Barbati (one long road actually, and quite busy so keep a look out for traffic!), and ate at The Lord Byron. Reasonably priced and we never had a bad meal! The owner George, and his colleague also called George, made us feel welcome and nothing was too much trouble, often joining us for a last drink and giving us all the gossip on the island. I recommend you give them a visit!

We hired a car for 10 days - first week booked prior to the holiday with Eurocar, and a second car booked for 3 days with the hotel. Whilst the Eurocar was of a higher spec. the hotel car was perfectly adequate and a great deal cheaper! Would certainly use this option next time. The Pantokrator hotel staff were friendly and helpful, particularly Maria on reception and her friend who worked behind the bar. Can't fault any of the staff. The pool was excellent, and the service at the pool bar second to none. Food and drink expertly and quickly served by Carla

Only down side to the hotel is that it is built on the steep sides of Mount Pantokrator and it is very steep to walk from the beach up to village, and then again from the village to the Hotel, with a further steep walk back to your room. Not very good in hot weather. You have to be fit and I would not recommend it to anyone who is not a good walker or good on their feet.
A trip to corfu town is definitely a must - particulary the old part of town - plenty of spending to be done, and some lovely tavernas and restaurants. All in all an excellent holiday. Obviously you can only speak as you find it yourself and not everyone likes the same type of holiday, but the fact we have been three times speaks for itself.
