Nissaki Beach Hotel, Guest Review | "Ideal Corfu Hotel to Chill Out"

Having read previous reviews I was extremely apprehensive about going to this hotel with all the talk of smoke and wasps, food poisoning and rude staff. I have to say I was more than relieved to find none of the above problems. Nissaki Beach Hotel hotel was lovely and the food excellent. The entertainment staff certainly had no shortage of effort and an excellent raport with the children, even if some of their efforts (certainly at the start of our stay) were a little too Eastern European for our liking-the sort of thing you see on Chris Tarrant and would turn off. However the last 3 nights could not be faulted.

There was plenty going on during the day, except it was a little too hot for me to partake. I felt sorry for the team trying to get people to do anything other than fry themselves on the sunbeds! I would agree with those who say the hotel is remote in the extreme ie Thomas Cook brochure says 2Km from Nissaki but it does not tell you this is up a steep hill from the hotel then along a winding road with no path! However some other guests did tell us later that there was another way along the beach and then up a steep path. We had 2 excellent trips out to Paxos/AntiPaxos and round the island that were excellent value and also hiked to Agni and Kalami, though I appreciate this could not be done easily with children in tow.

We also noticed on the trip round the island that many of the properties people were staying in were equally remote-maybe this is symptomatic/typical of Corfu? I agree it is expensive but then we found much of Corfu expensive also eg 7.5 Euros for 2 halves of lager in Corfu Town! As for the staff, they weren't the friendliest I've ever met (we even nicknamed the Maitre Dee 'Mr Happy!). However when you saw the aggressive rude guests they had to deal with it is perhaps easier to understand. At times I was ashamed to be English, the way some people behaved as if they were in Falliraki or Ibiza.

In short if you want to get out and about to see the sights this is not the place for you (we missed being able to walk out in an evening). However,if you want a good, clean hotel with fabulous views over the bay and to relax doing nothing other than swimming and reading, with maybe an occasional trip on the free bus into Corfu Town then this is the perfect spot to recharge your batteries (certainly did the trick for me after a stressful time at work).
