Grecotel Eva Palace Guest Review: "Great Relaxing Holiday....but"
My girlfriend and I have just returned from a 2 week holiday at this hotel. My first comment would be that the location is superb and the staff are truly excellent as nothing appears to be a problem for them and they go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. Yes there is a problem with wasps in the outside dining area but this is only at breakfast time as at dinner they are not around, the problem here is that people would come back to their table laden with food on several plates and wonder why they were innundated by wasps at their table, the solution is to just bring back one plate and should you want additional courses of fruits and pastries then make a return trip to the buffet. We also found that the wasps prefer fruit juice compared to the complimentary bucks fizz at breakfast! By the way no one to our knowledge was stung whilst we were there. |
On the topic of food we found the choice to be plentiful and varied and the quality was exceptional, dinner was a joy and the way they cook the meat dishes are really good. We did find the rooms to be very plain and quite dull, magnolia throughout, perhaps a dash of colour in the room with some prints and a coloured bedspread may help as the rooms did not live up to a 5 star rating. Petty I know as you spend minimum time in your room but none the less a point worth making. |
One thing that did annoy us immensley was the reserving of loungers by the pool and yes by that I do mean the Germans! I think the hotel need to address this matter. The hotel occupancy is about 25% UK 50% German and 25% other European nations. The pool area which is superb would be commandeered by 9am and you would sit there and watch as the people would eventually get to their loungers at 10 or 11. We even witnessed a couple who reserved their lounger at the pool and then came and did the same at the beach as they positioned their towels on sunbeds next to ours, we had a day on the beach and the said guests eventually came down to the beach at 3pm......out of order i am afraid. |
If you are staying at this hotel I would reccomend the all inclusive package that has recently become available, it was an additional £50/day on the brochure price but well worth it as the drinks were very expensive, 11euros for a G&T ! I don't pay that in the west end of London! The quality of the drinks however were very good, named brands as well as a selection of cocktails and beer. We estimated we would have spent at least 100 euros a day on drinks should we have not opted for the all inclusive package. Another reason for doing the all inclusive is the remote location of the hotel as there are a few tavernas in walking distance but nothing special, they do run a daily bus from the hotel to Corfu Town that leaves at 10am and returns at 2pm we thought this was good but disliked the 10 euro per person return charge as the capital is only 10 miles away! |
One trip that we would reccomend was a day trip by hydro-foil to paxos, a beautifull unspoilt gem of an Island with 2 beautifull harbours about 45 minutes sailing time from Corfu harbour, we paid 37 euros each for the trip and had a wonderful day.
In summary we had a lovely holiday in Corfu and if we went back again then we would do a 1 week stay for rest and relaxation. |
