We have just returned from 12 days at the Corfu Palace and can't rate it too highly. Professional yet relaxed, it is the perfect base from which to explore Corfu - and is ideal for strolling into Corfu Town, a lovely place to be in the evenings with a good selection of restaurants and lots of Venetian architecture to admire. The hotel itself is set within luxuriant gardens on a lovely broad bay with great views to the old fort and in the other direction to Mon Repos.

It is, however, probably the staff that set the Corfu Palace apart from other hotels that we've stayed in. We did have a problem with the room that we were given on our first night - noise from the room next door. We let the receptionist know and she could not have been more helpful, arranging for us to change rooms later that morning - she is certainly a great asset to Corfu palace hotel. All other staff that we dealt with from the cleaners to the pool attendant and the gentleman who handled the booking of our taxi were fast, friendly and efficient.

Highlights include the wonderful breakfasts taken either inside the restaurant or, as we chose to do, outside on the lovely dining terrace. The choice of food is exceptional and the waiters (particularly Nikos) are friendly and professional, without being intrusive. The pool area is simply gorgeous, a lovely place to retreat to once you've finished exploring the Corfu island.

Yes, some of the bedrooms could perhaps benefit from a bit of a facelift, but this is a minor issue and does not detract from the overall experience. Our room was extremely spacious and well furnished (nice ambient lighting etc) giving onto a terrace with a view of the garden and the sea beyond. Fresh flowers and a welcome gift of wine and fruit were nice touches. Overall a great hotel and one in which you will soon feel at home. We would certainly visit again.
