Aquis Agios Gordios Hotel
"Good value for money hotel, nice and relaxing"

We booked this hotel last minute (2-3 days prior to going) and paid only £500 for an all inclusive week with a guaranteed seaview room. Flight was only 2 hours 40 mins but transfer took over an hour as we had several stops around the island, it could of only taken 20 mins but hey ho. When we arrived the first room they gave us overlooked another building with a little seaview so we requested another which we were given, this room was at pool level and had beautiful views over the sea.
I think quite a few people asked for change of room. We were offered a bungalow but was quite a walk (up and down steep hill) to the hotel. Friends we met there stayed in one and they were by far nicer than the hotel rooms, in the sense that they were bigger and had seperate living area as well as a large bed (we had twins - although had requested a double).

Overall the Aquis Agios Gordios hotel was good, the pool area / beds were a little cramped but you just got on with it, the pool is quite small for the number of people and it was extremely hot with not much of a breeze. The beach directly below the hotel is full of dried seaweed and smells of sewers / stagnant water but nice enough further down. there is a bar at the beach level but never used it because of the smell mainly and of all the steps you have to go down! Food for an AI hotel was good (we are pretty fussy / like our food) but suited us, we did go to the sushi restaurant which made a change and the a la carte which was ok, just made a nice change being served. There was a good variety of food in the buffet, from our previous experiences with AI the food has never been that nice (maybe due to the hotels being very large and catering for the masses) but this hotel being smaller was of much better quality. We did not experience any dodgy holiday tummys ;-)

Entertainment was basic but they did have themed nights which made a change, however the entertainment team did little to entertain, advertise the activities. This was fine for us because all we were looking for was a week of relaxing. We did venture into Corfu town via the local bus one afternoon and went out a couple of nights to a different bars just for a nice cocktail and change of scenery. Views from the hotel were amazing, watching the sunset up on the terrace bar was usually my highlight.

Little niggles would be lack of variety on drinks, and the fact that they stopped serving AI drinks at 1100pm when one of the bars was open till 1am. You have to pay for the safe and what you have in your mini bar is the only drinks you get, if you want water you have to fill up a water bottle by the pool or take water from the bar back to your room.

We met some great people there, we called ourselves the dirty dozen and it was lovely to meet so many other brits, I was suprised at how many English there were and yes believe it or not we were the first one's out with our towels each morning. If you try to put your towel down on an empty bed before you do breakfast it will normally be picked up and left at reception. We never had trouble getting a bed though. A few people have really moaned on about several little things, dirty beds, drinks etc but we thought it was fine, it was probably a 3*+ in UK but did the job. If you want top notch go to a 5* in a country where the hotels are honestly that rating. We have stayed mainly at 5* and expect a certain standard and this was ok. Your on holiday, forget the moaning.

Staff were helpful and friendly, air con works, if anything goes wrong or needs fixing it's the same porter guy that does everything, bless him, he always looked knackered and sweating, we tried to tip him but he wouldn't take it. Great bonus that you have free wi-fi throughout hotel. Would recommend as a quiet, quick and cheap getaway.
