The Spanish islands (Canary and the Balearics) may be the most popular holiday resorts for European and Mediterranean sun-seekers but they are way down the list for the quality of their accommodation, the study found.
Instead it is the islands of Greece that dominate the list compiled by travel search Trivago website from the reviews found on more than 220 global online-booking sites. It is interesting to note that the more well-known Greek islands of Crete, Corfu and Rhodes have lower-ranked hotels and other vacation rental than the smaller islands of Ios, Hydra and Folegandros islands.
