Re: Ideal central location for exploring Corfu town !

Located very close to the Liston and Old Fort the Arcadion is a 3 Star hotel situated above a Mcdonalds! Don't let that put you off.
It has been recently renovated to a high standard and affords a traditional Corfu hospitality and professional service. We were offered a double room (which was actually a triple) with ensuite bathroom - with bath which was very welcome in the 35 degree heat! This cost us 90euro for bed and breakfast. The room in Arcadion hotel was tastefully decorated in gold and cream with shutters and thick curtains to cut out the sunlight and effective air conditioning. There was a TV with satellite channels , mini bar , computer connection and safety deposit box , along with huge wardrobes along the length of one wall. The bathroom was provided with thick immaculate white towels, and complimentary toileteries were available. The bed was extremely comfortable and the room quiet and peaceful. My only two disappointments were: 1) there was no hairdryer and 2) the showerhead was not keen to stay in position and wavered about when in use. Breakfast was buffet style: taken in the breakfast room where an array of cold meats , fruit , cereals, yoghurt, breads , cakes and boiled eggs was on offer, served with tea , coffee and juice. A pleasant lounge was available with a bar and the roof garden on the 6th floor was visible beyond a fly screen but we did not have the opportunity to go out onto it. This is traditionally where the pots are hurled from on Easter Eve to smash in the square below!! We would certainly stay in Arcadion again.

This is not a five star hotel but the central location, friendly and helpful staffs and organized management provided us with great experience. Our view from the balcony facing the old fort was the bonus for me even though my husband complained about the noise from the street/city square late into the night. Bats, and lots and lots of flying bats are another curious sight outside of our balcony. They are not threatening at all; they would never crashing into you with their super sonic ability.
If you wake up early enough you will see the sky cover with swallows looking for worms. Like most European hotels, the elevator is hilariously small so taking the old fashion stair is an option to be considered. Arcadion Corfu Hotel doesn’t have a restaurant but the hotel is surrounded by tasty eatery of all kinds, from formal dinning to roadside café. You may not believe it but there is a McDonald on the first floor of Arcadion hotel building; just make sure no one sees you walking out with a Big Mac.
