Akrotiri Beach Hotel Guest Review | "What a great Hotel"

My wife, son and I have just recently (21st Aug) returned after 18-wonderful nights at the Akrotiri Beach Hotel. We have travelled to many places in the world and stayed in quite a few fancy hotels and the Akrotiri certainly gives them all an excellent run for their money. And then, there is the splendour of the surrounding scenery with crystal clear waters.
Paleokastritsa is not for those seeking lots of lively nightlife but there are plenty of tavernas, bars and a couple of discos to keep you busy if you wish. We dined at Nereid’s restaurant on two occasions. As has been mentioned before, it can be recommended although the service on our second visit was not quick due to the many people eating there. Worthwhile visits are to the monastery (an invigorating walk from the hotel!) and to Lakones for a splendid view of the area. Also worthwhile, is renting a boat for the day and visiting the many secluded beaches.

We stayed in a Family room with two (bed)rooms and the accommodation was really great with masses of room and storage space, really clean and in excellent order! We could not fault the accommodation or the condition – unlike your reviewer of 11th Aug. We took the half-board option despite the many disparaging comments concerning the food by other visitors to this hotel. I just wonder whether they were staying at the same hotel! The breakfast selection had bread, cake, fruit juices, coffee & tea, croissants, local yoghurt & honey, jams, cheese, cold meats, fresh fruit (melon, nectarines, apples, plums, oranges), boiled eggs, fried eggs, bacon & sausages!!!! And people write and complain that there was no choice? Astounding!!! What more does one expect? If people are looking to enjoy the same cuisine as in their home country they shouldn’t travel abroad!

The dinners too were EXCELLENT and the servings were hot, with plenty of choice. If one did not care for the main dish of the day, there were generally at least five other choices. True, everything was repeated after a week but what does one expect - something different for each day of every month? Get real!!! I note that one reviewer (16th Aug.) who was there during our stay, complained that dinner took 2-hours! Were they really staying at the Akrotiri Beach Hotel ??? If the reviewer wanted Swedish food, perhaps they should holiday in Sweden? We never had to wait that long to complete our meals during our whole stay! In fact, on many occasions, I had to ask the waitresses to give us some breathing between courses because they were so quick in clearing away one course and serving the next! And what wonderful, smiling people they were and such wonderful service from Angela, Vanessa, Caterina & Natasha, to name a few! The evening entertainment too was good – particularly the nights when the restaurant staff gave a display of Greek dancing and enticed guests into participating!

The pool and rocky beach too, were excellent – spotlessly clean. I have to mention a few negative (???) points as well as the praise above: The beach with all its pebbles is not easy to walk on. The notice at the pool requesting people to shower before entering the pool, should be displayed in a more prominent position. The last rung of the ladder into the water at the rocky beach is badly rusted and needs attention. The last rung of the ladder into the water at the rocky beach is badly rusted and needs attention. At breakfast, it would be nice to have (some of) the plates and dishes cleared at regular intervals, rather than after one has left the table. Things become somewhat cluttered!

Finally to Reception and the wonderful Eleni Tsoukala, who if my memory serves me correctly, has been mentioned before by one of your reviewers. A wonderful, efficient, bubbly person who took such pride in her job and did it so well. Nothing was too much trouble for her and the satisfaction of guests was paramount. If only there were a few more people like her in the Akrotiri Beach hotel business! I cannot conclude without a special ‘thank you’ to Mr. Tony Ziniatis, the proprietor - a wonderful (83 year) old gentleman who does his rounds in the hotel on a daily basis to ensure that all goes well. He took very special care of us and we shan’t forget that. Readers may gather from my review, that we had a fabulous stay at Akrotiri Beach hotel
and would not hesitate one minute in recommending it most highly! We shall be back! Travelled with: Family with Teenagers
