Our first visit to Pantokraotr hotel was a wonderful experience. My Mother & Father-in-Law go to this hotel twice a year and obviously love it. Having read the unfavourable reviews from some very unkind people - I can see why the a few people we met at the Pandokrator were worried about going. Please ignore their comments about rude staff members and sub-standard rooms - read this review and put your minds at rest........
We were a family of four staying in a family room (called a suite by the hotel) and it was fabulous. Very clean, great balconies (we got 2, but most rooms have 1) and more than adequate for our needs. My Inlaws stayed in a double standard room and that too is clean, bright and has everything you need for an enjoyable stay.

The hotel is built on a hill next to Mount Pandokrator and is steep up to your room, but nothing that a reasonably fit (or unfit in my case!) person can't manage. The hill, aptly named Cardiac Hill, down from the hotel to the main road is very steep so beware. A doddle to walk down, but quite demanding on the way up - although our 5 and 7 year olds ran up it!! There is a courtesy mini bus to bring you back up at the end of the day (it finishes at 5pm) and you just book that at the hotel reception.

The pool is immaculately clean and our kids were fascinated by the automatic pool cleaner called Sweepie, kept them amused for ages in the evening! Snacks by the pool are of a fast food nature and all tasty and good value for money. Carla who runs it is friendly and always willing to help. Please note that you will be asked not to bring your own food and drink to the poolside as they like you to buy from the snack bar. I think this is only fair as is you want to eat things you buy from the supermarkets, you can go to the beach and do that. The beach is lovely and clean, but very pebbly and not much sand for the young kids to play with. Pedlos are available for 9 Euros an hour and we enjoyed peddling up and down the shoreline! Tavernas are all run by friendly Greeks and they all speak excellent English - although they really loved it when my kids said please and thank you in Greek!!

Dinner in the evenings was always hot, varied and plentiful. You would have to be very hard to please to not find something that you enjoyed. The salad bar is a bit repetitive and some dishes that were on the main course the night before did tend to appear on the salad bar for breakfast? A bit weird, but you are not forced to eat it (although a lot of people from the Czech Republic seemed to choose it for breakfast!) Breakfast is continental style and there is usually baked beans and some other hot, fried dish and boiled eggs, toast, fruit and ham and cheese etc.

There is no entertainment in the evening, but we did not miss that even with the children as they soon made friends with other kids and we were happy to chill out and relax with a drink looking at the beautiful view. It is a wonderful view from the hotel and you can see Corfu town and planes landing at the airport.
Barbati is a very small place, but friendly and scenic. There is a travel agent (5 minutes walk from the hotel) and he arranged a coach trip to Aqualand - what an experience, if you have kids (or even if you don't) book it & go it's great and we loved it....Family of four costs about 108 Euros and that includes coach and entrance fee.
Hope this review helps you to make your mind up - I've been as honest as I can. My Father-in-Law is 70, so if he can walk up and down a few hills.....? Have a great time - we did!
