Pantokrator Hotel // "Quiet Location, relaxing holiday"
Hi. My Girlfriend and I have just returned from a weeks stay at the Pantakrator hotel in Barbati. We went with the intention of having a relaxing holiday spent by the pool and wanted to avoid a clubbingpubbing holiday so opted for the quiter north of the island far away from Kavos!! The hotel, as stated by other reviewers is in a lovely position with fantastic views where you can see over to Corfu Town and also make out Albania when the weather is good. As stated the hotel is on a hill so the strolldrive up is pretty steep. The hotel seemed to have a mix of nationalities and seemed popular with young couples and some families, although the latter decreased as the week went by (schools returning at the start of Sept). We had a standard room and it was ok, nothing special. It did have it's own balcony which was great for the views and a TVDVD so CD's could be played on this. Fridges and Air Conditioning are avaliabe but all at extra cost

We went on a half-board basis although always said that we would eat out in the evening. We did have one meal at the restaurant and that was fine but we did feel there was a lack of choice having looked at the menu throughout the holiday. With regards to the buffet breakfast we were not too impressed with the quality. There is variety in terms of bread, fruit, cold meats, etc but it was not the best quality. The warm breakfast bits seemed to always consist of eggs, baked beans, frankfurters and then one other dish that seemed to change daily. If you do eat there I would recommend getting there by 9.30am before the better food disappears.

The hotel reception and staff are all very friendly, and the pool area was really nice. You can get a selection of drinks and food here throughout the day (the cooked breakfast is better here than the daily buffet!). We did eat out every evening bar one and there are several tavernas at the bottom of the hill that are very accommodating and serve very nice food, all with lovely views of the bay. We felt 'Caryatides' was the best but you can't go wrong with any along here

We booked a hire car via the hotel which was really worth it to explore the island a bit more. At 31 Euro a day (discounts for more than one day) we felt this was really good value. We would recommend going to Agni (2 villages further up from Barbati) that is a tiny bay where there are 4 tavernas offering fantastic food. This was recommended in the Greek Island travel guide we had and was well worth it! Overall we had a really nice time in Barbati. If you do want a quiet holiday away from the crowds then this would be for you. The only gripe was the quality and lack of choice with the hotel food but with so many nice tavernas at the end of the road this is not a huge problem, and wouldn't stop us going again
