Nissaki Beach Hotel, Corfu | "Excellent Value Hotel"
Have just spent a week at the Nissaki Beach Hotel, in Corfu staying on a Half Board Basis. The Hotel is built into the side of a hill with a very steep drive, and is not suitable for less able individuals unless you do not wish to venture beyond the hotel/pool area. The hotel is situated on a private beach shared with a couple of small holiday apartment buildings and a small taverna, the area is quite isolated, other small beaches and a couple of tavernas can be reached on foot, but the paths are rough. |
There is a daily courtesy bus from the hotel into Corfu town leaving at nine and returning at midday which is more than adequate for a quick mooch around, there is also a bus stop at the top of the steep drive but the buses are few and far between, to be honest car hire is essential if you intend exploring. Nissaki Beach hotel and its rooms are furnished to a high standard throughout, and have many contemporary features. The staff are friendly and very keen to tend to your requests, there is a dedicated entertainment team that provide activities around the hotel through the day and into the night. |
The pool area is well laid out, with a well stocked pool bar/cafe, being adjacent to the sea ensures you have a sea breeze to keep you cool. Sunbeds and parasols around the pool are free, but a charge is levied for those that are on the beach. The only down side of the pool is that the music played around the pool during the day is quite loud and there is no quiet area for those that do not want to listen to it. There are rules regarding the sunbeds - no towels are allowed to be left before 8am and any that are left unattended for a period of time are removed to allow for others to use the bed, this all sounds a bit regimented but the rules are only loosely adhered to and it does ensure that there are plenty of beds to go around. |
The entertainement around the pool continues into the evening with shows/music which can be quite loud and heard from the rooms/balcony if you are on the lower floors and can be annoying if you want to have a quiet evening on the balcony. A major negative to the island of Corfu is the airport, which like many of the greek islands is small, but when you check in you are kept waiting in queues outside the airport building, there is a small shady area which is also hiding place for mosquitos! Apart from this there is no shade, I spoke to several of the reps about this and all the major companies keep there passengers waiting outside in the full sunshine, whislt there I witnessed several people fainting and vomiting. I would defintately recomend taking plenty of water and sunscreen to the airport to ensure you journay home is a comfortable one. |
