Aquis Agios Gordios Hotel
"Some all inclusive holidays are less inclusive than others"
It was a relatively quiet resort on the edge of Agios Gordios - which itself is a relatively small place about 35 minutes outh of the airport with a few bars, couple of supermarkets etc - not the type of place to go if you like a rampant night life.
It does have a direct bus link to the city which is handy and cheap at 2 Euro one way. This resort seems to be geared towards the older couple, with mosts guests seem to be well into their 60s - and also geared towards British and German guests (who seemed to be present in roughtly equal numbers). We stayed in a "bungalow" room overlooking the beach - which was nice, although a bit of a distance away from the main hotel complex (there were other bungalows considerably further away and up considerably steeper hills - something to consider if you are unfit or infirm). |
Positive Points.
Aquis Agios Gordios hotel itself was nice and clean, the staff were relatively friendly. Room was nice, with a nice view, fridge and TV/DVD in the room and a balcony. Food was of a decent quality, with quite a lot of choice on any particular night
(several meat dishes, couple of pasta dishes, loads of salad etc) - but did get a bit samey after a week - especially when it came to the deserts. I was expecting the food to have a bit more "pep" to it - but fear that it had been tamed to suit the blander UK/German taste. Al-a-carte restaurant was reasonable with nice service - although you could only use this once per week and it got booked up very quickly (we booked it the day after checking in and the only slot we could get was the day we left). Free wifi throughout the resort and dvd/tv in your room was a nice touch as was the free dvd/book hire service. Hotel had a shop which was handy and saved walking into town for essential supplies - and the prices were reasonable.

Negative Points.
All inclusive drinks (especially cocktails) were very limited. Some cocktails that could be made using local spirits werent classed as all inclusive (e.g. Mojito) because the staff said they took "too long" to prepare. I'd say 65% of the cocktails listed on the menu werent available all inclusive and at over 7 euros each - also seemed quite expensive.
All inclusive drinks also ended at 11pm. Other non all inclusive things included use of the room safe (21 Euro for 7 nights), use of beach sunbeds (7 Euro per day for 2), use of the "sushi bar". Not neccesarily the hotels fault although they could have more traps/lures - but it was over-run by wasps. You were constantly bothered by them in all the outside areas - especially if you had a drink. This is something to bear in mind if planning to go there in the Autumn or if you are allergic to wasp stings - its probably not as much of an issue earlier in the year. Pool was unheated - which is probably fine in the height of summer - but coming towards the end of the season with the cooler nights setting in - it was very cold indeed. |
